Network News: The navigation buttons on the home page aren't exactly what I want so there will be a change coming soon.

Local News: A new addition to the Game Links section of the Vitual Terrain web is Unreal Links page 2 which contains over 500 links. Where did I steal a list like that? Truth of the matter is that it's being offered for free. Unreal Websites formaly a links web site dedicated to all Unreal games is shifting gears to another format and so made available the list as a text down load. I have the Excel spreadsheet format along with a tab delimited text file but I'll have to find out what to do to set it up as a search database. And it's a good thing I did visit the other day because according to the banner on the site, Unreal Websites is soon to be gone forever. I plan to keep the list posted and maybe even set up a data base in the unforeseeable future.
Up Date 12/04/03: Unrealised is also shutting down and I want to post some of it here but how much I not sure yet. It is info and files having to do with Unreal and UnEd1 yet very well done so it seems a waste to let it die. I'll probably start with a zip of the tutorials then go from there.

Network News: Other Worlds is now Worlds ofthe Unknown to avoid be confused with an Internet graphics business called Other Worlds. The new graphic, something I'm very proud of, really sets the mood for that web site. If I can find an audio clip with 1950s Sci Fi movie sounds it would be the cherry to top off the atmosphere. Does anybody know of a spinning galaxy or solar system gif, maybe the above mentioned audio clips? Let me know if you have information. The knocking monster is now residing at the bottom of the left hand column on the Sci Fi & Fantasy page.
I worked on the Hobby Spot network Map and it's looking good.

Other News: A lot of little tweaks to the Worlds ofthe Unknown web site mostly done to the nav bar.

Dr SciFi

Sunday, August 24, 2003
Other News: Virtual Terrain is the first to receive a graphic to replace the news for that area. As I stated in yesterday's posting all news will be posted here at Hobby Spot News. This way you get one stop info for the whole network. Also the graphics going up will be replaced scenes in 3D that fit the specific mood of area.

Dr SciFi

Saturday, August 23, 2003
Network News: I actually visited the site on the web today. I do that sometimes. I noticed it was awfully stupid not to have links in the connections bar to the area title pages. So I've put them in and hope it makes navigation a bit smoother. I also added horizontal lines between the area short descriptions on the portal page. It just looked all jumbled together.

In the near future the news that was on each areas' title page will be right here along with network news. In place of this will be a large graphic depicting the theme of the area. How's that for change and innovation? I may be getting rid of the pop up banners very soon so cross your fingers. Hey, what do you want for free?

Other News: Virtual Terrain has had a change of navigation. I took NeverFantasys and placed it as a subpage of PCGames.

New England Photo Gallery now offers photo reprints and photo restoration at very reasonable prices.

I would like part time volunteers to provide content and ideas for the following: RPG Games, which could grow into an area all its' own; Modelers' Workbench, the whole area and this could grow any number of ways. I also need outside content for all the other hobby areas so if you have something to say let me hear from you.

Rants: This computer shop seems very happy to treat you as a complete stranger so you can't be mad at them. Good Marketing strategy or bad karma? Bad memory take it in get a new one. Bad memory.... Do I really want to?

Dr SciFi

Monday, August 18, 2003
As promised New England Photo Gallery has new additions.

Sorry for all the ranting of late but It's not like I have a backup computer. All my plans for the future are based on a smooth running computer. Including this web site and becoming a indi game developer. So bare with me if I loose it just a little bit. If I put up a Pay Pal donate link will they come to click upon it.

Dr SciFi

Friday, August 16, 2003
Sand Dollar Gifts & Collectibles has a new item. And coming soon New England Photo Gallery will have new photos.

I'm still having problems with the new computer. These people are total screw ups. I constantly find a BIOS setting that need to be changed. Harware although not brand new is dying on me right and left. And I'm begining to suspect that the 256 of DDR (pc2100) that was paid for is just plain old pc 133. How do I prove carless and neglegent on their part. It's not like they offer a written warrenty. Don't trust a guy that you don't trust in the first place.

Dr SciFi

Sunday, August 10, 2003
Well guess what fans? When your computer dies it gives no warning. And here I thought a simply painful in the ass Windows reinstall would take care of everything. BUT "H" "E" DOUBLE TOOTHPICKS NO! I'm not blaming my poor computer, not after all the reboots we've been through together. She's the one that died. It was the computer shop I took her to that had no clue. Couldn't bring her back. Actually they did rebuild her but it took one whole week. They didn't order parts. In fact if they had ordered the startup software for the new board it would have been a much more smooth and painless process. The real problem is lack of organization and too many people with input. Not that they don't know what they are talking about they just have different opinions.

I did finally smooth out my newest respawn that took a few days. First I had modem trouble. Found out that the shop must have zapped the fairly new card. Then lots of quirks with Windows and software. But turned out to be the wrong drivers from the wrong company. The Sound Blaster drivers are wrong even though they had my CD. The video drivers were Asus Nvidia not the generic ones from Nvidia. Once again they had my copy of the right drivers. Changing the video drivers seems to have smoothed everything over and she's perring like a cat. A noisy cat but who cares. Note to self and all readers don't go to these people ever again but first retrieve the CPU and audio cable they "forgot" to return to me and pick up replacement for modem which I might have done something to myself when I must have hooked it up during a lightening storm???????????. If you live in central VT and want to know the name of this business please email me.

Next I build a little sister for my new spawn (by my self) just to avoid that horrible experience in some sort of retro replay mode.

At least I will be getting back to updating the network. And please submit something, anything that will help grow this network into a free information arena for all types of hobbyists.

Dr SciFi

Sunday, July 27, 2003
How do you like the new nave bar on the Portal Page? It's only something I threw togeather last night so links aren't set from the nav bar yet but will be soon. I'm still working on new and perminant design in my head. The loading speed of my Portal page is showing an improvement but not much more I can do about the problem. For us modem people it's just sit and watch as our hard driives and time tics slowly by.

I have added a Hobby Spot network Map for those that want to a certain page without all the clicking.

Dr SciFi

Sunday, July 27, 2003
Sand Dollar Gifts & Collectibles has a new item so check it out.

In other network news: you may have noticed on the way through that the navigation panel is broken off to a page of its own. This is for purposes of shorter load time. When going to the site myself the wait just seemed to long. So until I decide on some sort of smaller graphic or something feel free to use the text navigation on the Portal page or go the new Navigation page with all the familiar graphics you have used for years now.

Dr SciFi

Friday, July 18, 2003
I want badly to rant about my wonderful reinstall disk but I won't make you suffer with me. I'm sitting here right now as I write this acctually having to control myself. Does anybody know if you can copy windows off one of these disks. Or does anybody have a Windows 98 SE full install, OEM, Retail I'm not fussy. But it has to have cirtificate and key code and must be really cheap.

On to site news. The whole Sand Dollar web is being reworked as far as content is concerned and Virtual Terrain has an update.

Tuesday, July 15, 2003

I'm Back!!!

I couldn't put off reinstalling the OS (or operating system) on my computer any longer. Well it really should have been done a year ago. But it's been put off for want of a Win 98 SE disk. I have one of those pain in the ass reinstall disks with ever thing oringinal to my PC. The only thing original is my motherboard. Doesn't it take a long time to do everything necessessay to make it function the way it should. You're packing months and months of hardware upgrades and software installs into (15 days for me) and you hope the poor old 3 year old won't have a seizure making all that hard work for naught, leaving you with a lost love one that can never be replaced at the moment. I think many of you have been there.

Then I can't find my Front Page 2000 disk. So I had to revert to Front Page 98. "It will be like useing stone knives and bear skins. But I shall endeavor to do whatever is possible". I probably misquoted but I haven't seen that episode of Star Trek for quite a few years. Kids ask your perental Treky or the the video shop Treky for info on the above quote.

I will try to update on a regular basis from now on.

Sand Dollar Gifts & Collectibes is dropping their present supplier and going to another. This does not effect New England Photo Gallery at all.

Updates at Virtual Terrain, Other Worlds and the Flea Market. The home pages of Sand Dollar Gifts & Collectibles and New England Photo Gallery have been imported.

In other network news - putting the network back together again is coming along at a slow and steady pace.

Dr SciFi

Monday, May 27, 2003
Virtual Terrain is a virtual reality again. Isn't moving such a pain in the ass? I could have imported the old web but that means a 23+meg at about 6hrs of upload fun baring no timeouts from the server. No way in H, E, DOUBLE TOOTH PICKS. That's why I'm doing this one area at a time. Sorry for the inconvenience this causes.

Links - are going to be down in many areas of the network till the whole network is in place.

E-mail - is hobbysp@worldnet.att.net for now but more will be coming (an e-mail for just about every area of the network). As of right now the E-mail Me link if active only goes to old site box so use the one above.

Domain Name - of the site will be changing when I can upgrade to a new site package. It should be (http://www.hobbyspot.com) but using the old link should get you redirected to the new. Use the above e-mail if not. This new package (from Tripod) is really sweet - 100meg storage, 10 e-mails, 10 sub domains and a whole lot more for $12 per month. Use the above link and compare prices.

Thursday, May 01, 2003
Go to Virtual Terrain and read something about the release of Half-Life2 "finally" coming this year.

Monday, April 28, 2003
An update to Other Worlds and the transition of Sand Dollar Gifts & Collectibles is coming along nicely.

Friday, April 25, 2003
Lots of changes folks.

Hobby Spot is now the Hobby Spot network. This is the beginning of many changes and expansions.

I though operating the site without identity was getting really lame. So in order to add personality to the new look I shall henceforth be referred to as Dr SciFi. This way if you want to send e-mail you have someone to call by name instead of web guy, site guy or other explicative for example.

I will be slowly moving Sand Dollar Gifts & Collectibles and New England Photo Gallery to Hobby Spot network. This helps out on two fronts. It saves me from having separate web sites and and web hosts. It lets visitors to Hobby Spot network click through to areas in the same network instead of transferring to another web site. It also brings a gift shop to Hobby Spot network. And if things work out Sand Dollar Gifts & Collectibles will expand to hand made crafts and hobby supplies.
Please be aware that links will be broken, pictures and eye candy missing. I will try to correct all of this as I go along with the importing of the site to Hobby Spot network

Monday, April 07, 2003
It's Spring Cleaning Time and that means some new and hopefully better changes. Some of the changes that are set up but not quite complete are as follows. PC games and mods are now linked to the Virtual Terrain page and OtherWorlds is now just coverage for pen & Paper RPG's and UFOlogy.
The Links page is back up so click there and read the instructions at the top of the page for posting your link and get it in the e-mail to me.
And more changes are on the way so check back often.

Tuesday, March 11, 2003
Other Worlds has some new updates.

Wednesday, February 26, 2003
There have been problems with the server and I have not been able to update the site. But if you are reading this then I did update the site. Expect to see some changes to the site in the near future. For example combining my web sites here at Tripod making it easy and convenient for the browser and shopper. So look forward to it. (Tripod has many web hosting plans to suit every need)

Other Worlds has a few updates.
